Coupling of Wastewater Treatment from Uasb Plant and Storage Strach Production by Wolffia Arrhiza

The efficiency in treatment of treated wastewater from up-flow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) plant using Wolffia arrhiza coupling with storage starch production from its cell are considered. The experiments were undertaken in batch bioreactor and treated wastewater from UASB was fed into the tank and completed with the control conditions of temperature (30 ̊C), light strength (2000 lx) and lightening period (12 hrd). The efficiency of wastewater treatment is assessed in terms of nitrate, phosphorus, BOD (Biochemical Oxygen Demand) and COD (Chemical Oxygen Demand) reductions while storage starch production was extracted and evaluated the starch content. The results revealed that the vegetative frond of W. arrhiza showed in high content of nitrate (5-6% of total dry weight) and phosphorous uptake (1-2% of total dry weight) and the percentage of nitrate and phosphorous removal from treated wastewater are achieved at about 99.1% and 97.4%, respectively while both the BOD and COD were reduced and the percentages in removal showed at 43.8% and 13.5%, respectively. However, the vegetative frond of W. arrhiza has a decreasing ability to accumulate starch and achieved at 58.3mg-drycm after 10 days.
